Deer are carriers of ticks which can transmit Lyme Disease and other viruses like Powassan Virus when an infected tick bites a human or a pet.
Contact with People & Pets
When deer regularly enter your yard or garden, the chances of coming in contact with an infected tick increase. The best way to reduce your chances of contact are to remove the problem deer.
Lyme Disease
The Center for Disease Control has 30,000 cases of Lyme Disease reported to them annually. The CDC estimates the actual number of cases is closer to 300,000 because Lyme Disease is very difficult to diagnose. See monthly and annual reports for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts here.
